Target Marketing: Who's Your Audience?

This is a problem that I see a lot in the online world as well as the offline. Some people think that the best way to market is to just have as many people as possible see your advertisement. While it is good to get exposure the problem with this is that some people simply don't want your product. If you think everyone can benefit from your product then that is just narrow minded. The key is to maximize the amount of time and money spent on advertisement that you know is going to convert. For example: A toy manufacturer advertises on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon rather than on CNN because they know that the kids that watch Cartoon Network are going to very likely to like toys while the adults that watch CNN are probable not going to have any use for toys. Even though a small percentage of those adults may see a toy that there kid may want and be nice enough to buy it for them the likelihood of a kid seeing a toy and bugging the crap out of the parents until they submit is much higher. Now this might all seem very basic but there are a lot of people that cannot specifically say who would want there product. My advice: write a small description of who is going to want your product somewhere that you can see it every day and live by it. You will save a ton in advertising dollars if you can remember that.

Email Marketing: When Does It Become Spam?

With all the focus these days on finding spammers and locking them up, it is important not to cross the line. The simplest way to avoid this problem is to only email to people that have agreed to receive emails from you. Also be very clear that they will be receiving mail on a regular basis. Also, don't over do it, I don't like to send to send out mail more than once or twice a month. Lastly, make sure that you are clear on how to stop receiving emails. What some people don't understand is that, if the person doesn't want your email then you are just wasting your time email marketing to them. Email marketing is a great way to get repeat exposure. Some say that people need to here about you at least seven times before you can judge if your product is going to convert. So use email marketing but also use common sense.

Google AdWords: The Land of Lost Dreams

Well I hate to be the one to break the bad news but Google has officially announced that it plans to no longer allow multiple affiliates to purchase AdWords that have no landing page. This means that the people that are depending on Google AdWords for there affiliate marketing without having an actual website may be out of luck. Google will allow the highest bidding affiliate to continue placing there ads. On the bright side affiliates will no longer be required to identify themselves as an affiliate in the ad. This is expected to go into affect late January. Other pay per click services have already not allowed affiliates for some time now.

Overture: The Internet Marketing Kickstart

Do you have the patience of a 12 year old? Now you may think the question is silly but can you honestly say that you enjoy waiting around for your site to perform? I know I hate to wait.
